The best teaching is three-dimensional. It has not only height and breath of knowledge but also depth. The best teachers, in my opinion don't simply state some of the facts, they inspire learners to dig deeper.

Transforming Work Through Service

As a child, I often thought I would be a missionary when I grew up-a missionary in the typical sense of the word. I figured I would travel to some faraway place in the southern hemisphere and work as a Bible translator or as a nurse to help transform people’s lives. What I never expected was to travel to a faraway place to help with literacy; yet, that is just what I did in 2012 and 2014.

My many years in the academy, as both a student and now a professor, have provoked thoughts in me about the value and purpose of pursuing a higher education degree. In this post, I share my hopes for the students I teach for a meaningful tertiary level education experience even as I reflect on my own academic journey.

This entry tells two parts of our adoption story. We will talk about the sacred relationship we have with our son's birthmother.  She is the most selfless and loving part of our story. Second, the fact that our adoption is transracial has opened our eyes to the world our son will inhabit.
